Red Earth Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on June 30th 2022 with the Miawpukek First Nation in Newfoundland and Labrador. Miawpukek First Nation is a progressive Mi’kmaq Nation located at Conne River, NL that is well recognized provincially and nationally for its strong governance and administrative capacity. Further, its core values are rooted in its history and traditions. One of Miawpukek First Nation’s key strategic priorities is its goal of economic self-sufficiency. To this end, Miawpukek has been involved in several major economic development projects in recent years. One such project included the acquisition of Clearwater Seafoods in collaboration with the Mi'kmaq Coalition and Premium Brands Holding Corporation in 2020.

Red Earth Energy has formed a Joint Venture called H2 Canada with Infinite Green Energy, a leading international Green Hydrogen company, and Frontier Impact Group, a Climate Solutions Investment and Advisory firm. The group will conduct a feasibility study with expertise from Miawpukek First Nations in the area of Conne River and Bay d’Espoir and is exploring another potential site on the East Coast of Newfoundland & Labrador for a second facility. The feasibility study is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2022 and will last approximately 10 months.

About the Miawpukek First Nation

The Miawpukek is a traditional Mi’kmaw First Nation community located in Conne River meaning “middle river” on the south coast of the island part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Miawpukek First Nation became a permanent community sometime around 1822 and the Reserve was established according to traditional oral history in 1870. Since being recognized as a reserve in 1987, Miawpukek has gone from a poor, isolated community with almost 90% unemployment to a strong vibrant community with nearly 100% full time/part-time employment which is a credit to the perseverance of its people.
